Bioretention Research

1 August 2016

Stormwater360 Research and Development Manager Dr John Cheah gave a poster presentation of his research at the recent Singapore Water Week, comparing laboratory and field-based assessment of Bioretention media and the need to develop a standardised test method from a product development perspective as well as a regulatory approval perspective.

The key points of his presentation focused on the importance of testing media repetitively over a period, ensuring media is fully saturated, and using a combination of both real stormwater sediment and synthetic pollutants in the test influent. The latter was important to attain pollutant removal results in laboratory tests which reliably correlate with real world performance in the field.
