Living Roofs

Living/Green roof technology is a viable Water Sensitive Design (WSD) feature for stormwater management, and is considered a stormwater best management practice (BMP) due to its role in turning an impervious roof surface with a high rate and volume of runoff into a surface that absorbs precipitation.

By allowing rainwater to be partially taken up by plants, green roofs reduce the amount of water that runs off into the surrounding environment and they can also offset your required impermeable area when building. A green roof can soak up 70% of stormwater before it is released back into the environment by evaporation.
