Design

Project DART is a series of improvements to Auckland's rail network which, when completed, will allow more frequent and reliable passenger services and improve pedestrian safety around the rail network.

StormFilter was selected by Project Engineers OPUS International Consultants as the best option to treat the train lines due to the specific nature of the runoff.

Designed to meet stringent regulatory requirements, the StormFilter targets the full range of pollutants in urban runoff. Total suspended solids (TSS), soluble heavy metals, oil and grease, and total nutrients are effectively removed using a variety of sustainable media.

Zeolite, Perlite and Granular activated carbon (ZPG) filter media was used in StormFilter cartridges at the train station. ZPG filter media was chosen because of its ability to adsorb dissolved heavy metals and PAH, which are likely to occur on the site because of the high loading.

Maintenance

Due to the nature of the train site, maintenance was a major consideration for the project. The tall drop cartridges with ZPG media have been sized to ensure a 12-24 month maintenance frequency.
